Science reveals best places in the UK to plant a wind turbine

Some research has been carried out into the effectiveness of wind turbines depending on their geographical location, with some interesting findings being revealed.

The Energy Saving Trust placed several types of turbine up and down the country to see which of our areas would provide the best return on our energy consumption.

They've also set up a postcode system by which prospective turbine owners can check the wind speeds in their area before setting up a machine of their own.

Check out the article for more details, or if you'd like to see whether your postcode is a recommended wind turbine hotspot, simply make use of the tool - it's dead easy to use.

Top Ten Energy Saving Products Continued

Hi all, today we're going to wrap up our Top Ten ways to save energy.

Enjoy!

4. Tefal Quick Cup Eco Kettle

Fed up pacing up and down waiting for the kettle to boil, when all you want is a nice hot cup of tea? With the Tefal Quick Cup, this inconvenience is a thing of the past.

This remarkable Eco product boils enough for water for a cuppa in about 30 seconds, and what's more - it utilises about one third of the energy consumed by standard kettles in the process. This is because the Quick Cup heats exactly the amount of water you need - no more, no less.

Eco Kettles are fast becoming the world's best selling energy saving products, and it's not difficult to see why.

3. Electric Scooter

In this troubled economic climate the cost of living is rising dramatically. The biggest of these fuel cost increases has often been experienced at the petrol pump, which is where the concept of electric transport comes into play.

The utopian vision of a road driven upon solely by electric cars seems light years away, but with an electric scooter of bicycle you can taste the future today. A fully charged electric scooter costs as little as twenty pence for thirty miles of usage.

Granted, they won't set the land speed record on fire, but at those prices - saving cash and energy could not be cooler.

2. Solar Water Heaters

Solar Water Heaters are a product for those who are dead serious about saving energy, reducing energy costs and carbon emissions.

The process takes natural energy from the sun's rays and uses it to heat the home. Solar systems using evacuated tube collectors (like the ones for sale with Eco Beans) do not even require direct sunlight to be effective, as they are able to achieve a more balanced sun exposure.

An optimally operating solar thermal system can offer your home nearly 70% of it's total energy requirements. Remarkable, huh?

1. Tree Seeds

That's right, the Eco Beans team decided that tree planting was the way to go if you've decided to help the environment.

Why? It's an extremely cheap and practical way of saving energy, and for bigger trees, getting involved with a tree planting scheme could not be easier. The popularity of these schemes just goes to show that despite the influx of new technologies, the traditional natural methods can be just as effective and ten times more satisfying.

We hope you enjoyed that brief rundown, but keep your eyes on the blog in next few days for more Eco news.

Top Ten Energy Saving Products

Welcome one and all to our first blog post proper.

The push to become Carbon Neutral has seen a massive boost in the variety of products available, but where do you start?

The Eco Beans blog team has put together an accessible list of ten essential items that we think you should get your mitts on if you intend on helping save the planet.

So, in no particular order, here's the run down :

10. Organic Sun Lotion

We're well on the way to Summer time now, and what better way to stay protected and do your bit for the environment than with this effective, great value suncream
? Rich in antioxidants and developed using natural ingredients, this eco friendly sun tan cream will help you protect and tan without having to smother yourself in nasty chemicals.

9. Power Monkey Explorer

Another fantastic little gadget for those off on holiday this summer, this gizmo will let you charge mobiles, iPods and digital cameras using the rays from the sun. Need we say more?

8. Can Crusher

Fact : bulging, cumbersome bin bags full of cans are difficult to get rid of.

After your BBQ or summer party, spend a few minutes crushing those cans to a more manageable size - a cheap and extremely satisfying way to conserve waste space.

7. Eco Balls

If we suggested to you that washing your clothes could be done without the harsh chemicals found in most household detergents, you'd probably think we were joking. Think again - Eco balls are a household revolution, using ionised oxygen to get those unsightly stains out of your threads. These nifty products use less energy in the wash, will last you longer and help protect your skin and clothes better than other household cleaners.

6. Energy Usage Meter

This chap plugs into any household wall socket, and lets you know exactly how much energy an attacthed appliance is using. Handy for keeping a close eye on energy bills during these troubled times, and also for keeping tabs on emissions.

Domestic Wind Turbine

Easy to erect, quiet and surprisingly easy on the eye, the wind turbine has been domesticised successfully and units are beginning to creep their way onto lawns nationwide. And for good reason too - domestic wind turbines free their owners from the terrifying bills delivered to them by energy companies.

5. Sun Jar

At the other end of the Eco spectrum we have the Sun Jar - a product which won't put an end to global warming overnight, whilst remaning a charming and innovative way to save energy. The idea?

Simply leave the Sun Jar by an open window to 'soak up' sunlight during the day, and use this stored light to illuminate your house during the night. No batteries required!

Here at Eco Beans, we're looking to do a number of things :

  1. Help save the environment and convert as many potential customers to the green cause wherever possible.
  2. Bust the credit crunch wide open by providing the best value energy saving products across the internet.
  3. Make it easy and affordable for people to save energy, reducing bills and giving Planet Earth a big fat pat on the back at the same time.

We're offering other like minded companies the chance to help distribute Beans as well, so pretty soon you'll get the chance to collect them at a number of different outlets. Bring them to our site and watch the pounds drop off.

But that's enough about us - what about the blog? Well.
